1. Dark Knight
9. Batman Begins
I feel like I did a disservice to the entire Batman franchise here. I unwittingly matched up all the Batman movies in the first two rounds. (Although two presumably drunk idiots voted for Watchmen that first round.) This, to me, is a pretty close match-up. I really like Batman Begins and it avoided the Batman Voice thing that Christian Bale murdered in Dark Knight. But I think the performance of Ledger in Dark Knight carries it to victory, but I won’t begrudge you for voting for Batman Begins (because I also really liked Neeson in Batman Begins).
4. Guardians
5. Iron Man
This won’t be easy for me as I haven’t seen Iron Man, but I do know that I LOVED Guardians. Guardians 100% should have been a Best Picture nominee over American Sniper, which is a fine movie from what I understand. (So too should the Lego Movie.) But we all know that critics aren’t allowed to like action movies, especially if they’re funny. You’re only allowed to like funny movies if they’re quirky funny like a Wes Anderson movie. Anyway, Iron Man only beat X-Men First Class 19-11, which tells me enough to go chalk here. The correct vote is Guardians of the Galaxy.
3. Super Man
6. Spiderman 2
This might split some votes, but I think the obvious winner here is Spiderman 2. Again, Superman (1978) is just pretty slowly paced and is basically about a pretty one-dimensional character. I like Reeves in the performance, but he’s not exactly asked to do much more than be good looking, morally superior and confident. I’ll take Spiderman 2 with Tobey Maguire pulling off confused and insecure, even if he get a bit too gee whiz at times. And if you’re going to hold Spiderman 3 against Spiderman 2 (hard to blame you), remember in Superman, Superman flies so fast that he reverses the Earth’s rotation and this somehow allows him to go back in time. Let me repeat that: HE REVERSES THE EARTH’S ROTATION AND IT ALLOWS HIM TO GO BACK IN TIME. Not only is this a pretty cheap gimmick (way cheaper than emo-goth Spiderman), but time just doesn’t work that way. If you’re voting for Superman I’ll assume you’re illiterate and can’t read this any way, you dingus.
2. Avengers
7. X-Men Days of Future Past
This is a tough one for me since I’ve never seen the Avengers and I’m an X-Men fanboy, but from what I’ve read, Avengers is the pick here. That hurts me to say it, but the Avengers franchise did it right. Develop the characters in other movies and then bring them together. To my X-Men, good night sweet princes and princesses.
