GAME OF THRONES SEASON 5 EPISODE 4

5/6/2015

Episode 4 was an A compared to a series of C's we have seen. We finally have some back stabbing in action - both literally and figuratively.
  • Jorah and Tyrion were pretty dull
  • Jaime and Bronn got off to a rousing start, only to reveal the Sand Snakes are about to start a war. Who's more brainwashed the Sand Snakes or the Sparrows?
  • The Sparrows "arresting" Loras Tyrell wasn't shocking once we saw the mayhem start, but in the grand scheme of things, I did't see it coming. Tommen is struggggglliiinnggg.
  • I'm not sure Jon Snow is a good actor in the heavy dialogue scenes. Melisandre is a girl on a mission.
  • Stannis' speech to his daughter was heartwarming, I loved it.
  • The Sons of the Harpy's had incredible timing given no cell phones, incredible!

I'm most excited to see what happens with the Sparrows and The Sons of the Harpy's, it's a weird day when Tyrion's story is the least intriguing. I feel like most if not all of the Tyrell family will be leaving us by season's end.

the Sand Snakes scene was TERRIBLE.

Honestly, I thought las week's episode was far better, but that might be a product of bein a book reader and knowing where this is going.

Agreed... I was really looking forward to meeting them... then, blaaaaaah.

"My sisters and Ellaria surely know this story of my father and me by now, but I'm going to tell anyway, but not really to them, more to the sands!"

I tend to be a show apologist, but no question, that was one of the worst character intros the show's ever done.

You're not sure if Jon Snow is a good actor? He's a terrible actor, he's just pretty to look at. He literally uses 3 different facial expressions, and the one he used when Melisandre said "You know nothing Jon Snow" was hilarious.

All it took was invoking the name of Jon Snow to wake Ashli from her MMC sleep.

The writing for him has been great so far this season, so I think it's covering his acting weaknesses. Seeing him in something other than Game of Thrones would be the real test, and Pompeii doesn't count.

Bryan likes action and hates subtleties. This season hasn't been terrible it just waited a few weeks to start killing people. Character development and dialogue are may favorite parts. The Sand Snakes did absolutely suck ass and despite all of her stunt training she threw that spear like a girl.

Bah! This statement directly contradicts that, "it's a weird day when Tyrion's story is the least intriguing"

Tyrion and Jorah weren't all that interesting. It was just a traveling scene, which at times it feels like every GoT scene is a traveling scene. The only thing we got out of it was he's taking him to Dany, which all probably knew any way.

I did enjoy this episode more than the first three, but I feel like I'm still waiting for a couple great ones.

Not of big fan of how the Faith Militant are here, but i get it. There is, however, almost know way they'd be able to walk right up to Loras and take him like that without meeting some resistance, like Tommen did when he showed up on their steps. Besides, if they were really going after 'sins' such as homosexuality, they'd make a straight line for Cersei for incest, and would have plucked Tommen from the Kingsguard immediately for being an abomination.

I'm interested in where things are going with Sansa. You figure Littlefinger has a plan, or he wouldn't just leave her with Ramsey like that... too risky, right? Does Brienne come through and kill some Boltons, avenging Cat while earning Sansa's trust for when she takes over the North?

I always enjoy Bronn in a good fight... I did expect him to be a little more blunt with Jaime and just say "It's cool, we're getting your daughter, Sisterfucker... not that I blame ya, she's hot." instead of just dancing around it, cause it seems like a Bronn thing to say.

Just open the damn fighting pits already!

The Sons of the Harpy would have no chance against Unsullied if they didn't have such a huge numbers advantage there. Damn you, Harpy! RIP, Barriston.

True or no, the incest thing is a rumor, while the gay Loras stuff is a direct accusation from Cersei to the High Sparrow. The incest, or the Lancel-banging, might come later, but it's not actionable at the moment.

It's an accusation as much as Loras partaking in homosexual activities.

Also, isn't Lancel a sparrow/militant now? So his word would be more proof as first hand experience before Cersei, who the High Sparrow is obviously aware her intentions, and her accusations. I get why it's going this way.. I just think it's more of the show having to cut through logic quickly to advance their plots.

High Sparrow isn't going to bite the hand that feeds him, Cersei gave him power he's not taking her down until he knows he can get away with it

That might be how it's been sold to us, but that's not how the Faith Militant would act... especially when they're given here as overzealous and fanatical. The high sparrow isn't concerned with 'getting away' with anything, because what they're doing is the work of the Faith... so if he fails/dies/etc, somebody else and the rest of the Faith carries on in the work. But, as I've stated... leaps in logic are expected as the have to push their story along.

Good point, but isn't Cersei kind of their boss' boss'?

No, the Faith doesn't answer to the crown... Cersei likes to think she has some sense of control by basically raising the high sparrow up and reinstating the Faith Militant... but they'll come for her. As Jon said, the incest and other sex will likely hit their radar soon.

But from what i recall, homosexuality isn't something the Faith Militant made a point to search out... so it was more something the show added to push the Cersei vs Margaery feud.
