I purchased my first surround sound at age 17 after my dad moving out and taking his with him. Since then I've drug that Sony 5.1 receiver with me everywhere. Upon moving into a large house I bought a monstrous 7.2 Denon Receiver with multiple zones. 4 years later I had 0 zones and despised the idea of running cable under the carpet.
With some great deals in 2014 around Black Friday I decided to sell my 7.2, multi-zone receiver and use the funds to buy a sound bar with a rear subwoofer and 2 rear speakers. I could buy one for the living room and one for the bedroom with the funds from the Denon. I also bought the entry level 50" LED at Best Buy for $200 and moved our old 42" LCD downstairs.
Shane's selection of "A Highjacking" was perfect. Upon starting the movie I could subtly hear the sea all around and it was like being 17 all over again. I forgot how much I love the sound and visuals of a movie. I frequently watch our movies on my iPad with headphones while Chel sleeps. This does no movie due justice. I've even snuck in a few on my 5" Nokia Lumia 920. I could barely read the subtitles.
I'm not sure if "A Highjacking" was an A- movie or I was just caught up in feeling like I was there. It'd be an interesting regression to look at grades of movies as seen on different devices with number of distractions.
Not sure where I was going with this other than I'm pumped to have surround sound back. Parents et. al, put in surround sound wherever you watch movies most - it's worth it.
